Albert Y. Leung Ph.D. was born in 1938 in Hong Kong. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from National Taiwan University (B.S., 1961) and later a Ph.D. in Pharmacognosy from the University of Michigan (M.S. in 1965 and Ph.D. in 1967).
For over 50 years, he has dedicated himself to researching historical and traditional plants. He contributed his findings to the computer database of medicinal plants (PHYTOMED) for the National Cancer Institute (NCI). He is the author of the Encyclopedia of Common Natural Ingredients Used in Food, Drugs, and Cosmetics, as well as numerous articles dedicated to traditional herbal medicines. For many years, he has advocated for manufacturing quality in the herbal processing industry.
He is considered one of the foremost authorities on botanical products in the Western world and an expert in traditional Chinese medicine. He worked on the development of several hundred natural products that are successfully sold worldwide to this day. He is the founder of the field of herbal blends globally. He formulated the original versions of two other herbal drinks: Libra and Intra. Dr. Leung is the author of formulas for many commercially successful herbal preparations sold today by international companies, such as Forever Living, Herbalife, Colgate, Palmolive, Estée Lauder, and Avon.
The University of Michigan, College ofPharmacy, one of the most prestigious universities in the USA, awarded Dr. Leung the prestigious Alumni Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award in June 2011. Recognition from world universities certainly ranks among the top honors for scientists and visionaries. Dr. Leung's award can thus be considered a pinnacle in the career of a scientist and innovator.
